Zao Han joined JSS Barristers in 2014 as an articling student, and was called to the Bar in 2015. At JSS Barristers, Zao’s practice consists of general and corporate commercial civil litigation, employment litigation, construction litigation, personal injury, as well as other specialized litigation types such as defamation, franchise law and intellectual properties.
When not practicing law, Zao can often be found travelling or reading about travelling. Zao also loves the visual arts, including photography, drawing and painting.
Zao graduated with an H.B.Sc. with distinction from the University of Toronto in 2010, specializing in genetics and biotechnology. Shortly before law school, Zao also received a Master’s degree from the University of Toronto in 2011, specializing in the management of technology-focused sectors.
Zao completed her legal education in 2014, receiving a J.D. from the Western University. While in law school, Zao acted a case worker at Western University's Community Legal Services, helping clients with criminal, small claims court, as well as landlord and tenant issues. In addition, Zao took part in a specialized team dealing with immigration law, helping graduate students with their immigration applications. Zao continued to volunteer for various organizations after becoming a lawyer, including Calgary Legal Guidance, Pro Bono Law Alberta, and the Calgary Chinese Community Services Association, helping a diverse range of clients in need.
Before moving to Calgary, Zao spent her early years living in a number of places across three continents, including cities in China, Japan, Germany, and the United States. Zao is a native speaker of Chinese (Mandarin), and is fluent in Japanese as well.
