As a civil litigation boutique, advocacy is our business. JSS Barristers' lawyers have extensive experience as trial advocates and have appeared at all levels of the Courts of Alberta and Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

The firm also provides advocacy services before regulatory bodies such as the Alberta Securities Commission, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Law Society of Alberta. Additionally, alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation and arbitration form an integral part of the practice at JSS Barristers.


Marketing

Marketing Assistant

We are currently accepting applications for a Marketing Assistant who will provide administrative support to the Marketing Coordinator and all the firm’s marketing committees and sub-committees. The Marketing Assistant must be organized, reliable, detail-oriented, results driven, friendly, flexible, have a great attitude and show good judgment.

The Marketing Assistant is an on-site administrative role. Among other duties, the Marketing Assistant will be expected to update a client contact database, perform data entry, prepare advertising materials and social media content, oversee mass mailouts, organize special events, order promotional items, create gift baskets and other general administrative duties at the direction of the Marketing Coordinator or members of the various marketing committees.

Legal Assistants / Paralegals

Litigation Assistant

We are currently accepting applications for a full-time Litigation Assistant. Our ideal candidate is a team player with a good sense of humor and strong work ethic who can keep pace in our busy office. The successful candidate will have a proven track record working independently and as part of a team. They will be flexible, resourceful, and able to manage deadlines and shifting priorities. Our assistants report directly to the HR Manager and may take direction from two or more lawyers, as well as provide support for other assistants.

The successful candidate will take ownership of projects that are assigned, which means excellent time management and communication skills. They will be responsible for drafting correspondence and legal documents using firm approved precedents or from dictation, handwritten, or other notes. File maintenance is a critical component of the role, which may include daily filing, file organization, opening and closing files, keeping client file lists, and maintaining tracking systems for limitations, follow-up dates and general file activity. They will be responsible for handling incoming and outgoing mail, answering client inquiries, as well as general administrative duties including some time entry and bill preparation. 

We are open to considering a diverse range of candidates, from recent graduates with a diploma or certificate from a recognized legal assistant program to those with up to five years of legal experience. Experience with document management systems (such as WORLDOX or NetDocs), Soluno, Intapp and ACL will be considered an asset.
