As a civil litigation boutique, advocacy is our business. JSS Barristers' lawyers have extensive experience as trial advocates and have appeared at all levels of the Courts of Alberta and Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
The firm also provides advocacy services before regulatory bodies such as the Alberta Securities Commission, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Law Society of Alberta. Additionally, alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediations and arbitrations form an integral part of the practice at JSS Barristers.

Summer Students
JSS Barristers is accepting applications for 2L Summer Student positions for 2024.
JSS Barristers is committed to providing a comfortable, enjoyable, and rewarding learning environment for our 2L Summer Students. From their very first day, students will be given the opportunity to work on interesting litigation files that will allow them to apply their law school education to real practice scenarios.
Over the course of the summer term, the students will have the opportunity to participate in:
- Legal research;
- Document drafting;
- Attending Court, mediations and arbitrations;
- Attending Questionings;
- Attending client meetings;
- Professional development; and
- Participating in internal/external networking and continuing legal education activities.
At JSS Barristers, the lawyers and staff understand the important role that a good mentor and coach plays in the development of young legal professionals. Our Summer Students will have day-to-day interactions with some of Calgary’s best litigators - including Oliver Ho, the firm’s Managing Partner and the 2020 recipient of The Advocates’ Society’s Excellence in Mentoring award - at a firm that was recently named Alberta Firm of the Year at the 2022 Benchmark Canada Awards.
