Education
Kayla earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta in 2025. Before pursuing law, she completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Calgary with a major in Risk Management Insurance and Finance. During her undergraduate degree, she was a part of the Co-op program and graduated with distinction, demonstrating a commitment to professional growth.
Community
Driven by a passion for advocacy and the community, Kayla devoted time in law school to community service. As a volunteer with Student Legal Services, she provided accessible legal information and guidance to individuals from low-income backgrounds. In her role as a caseworker on a family file she drafted affidavits, filled court forms and engaged directly with the public, offering personalized legal guidance during their most challenging moments. This experience solidified her dedication to advocacy.
Kayla also took on leadership roles within the legal community. She served as an executive member of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL), where she worked to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within the legal profession. In addition, she mentored first-year law students, helping them navigate the early stages of their law school journey. Kayla’s commitment to community extended to the arts as well - she contributed to the University of Alberta’s annual charity law show as an assistant dance director, combining creativity with philanthropy to support local causes.
Both before and during law school, Kayla volunteered as a youth basketball coach the YMCA, working with children aged 6-12. Through coaching, she fostered confidence, teamwork and a love for physical activity in young athletes.
