Lauren Tyrell is an Articling Student at JSS Barristers with a passion for advocacy, community involvement, and exploring the outdoors.
Education
Lauren obtained her Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University in 2024. Prior to law school, she attended the University of Western Ontario, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology, and a Diploma in Critical Security Studies (Dean’s Honor List).
In law school, Lauren was awarded the Dean’s Course Prize in both Class Actions and Trusts, for receiving the overall top mark in each class. Lauren was also the 2023 recipient of the Guild Yule LLP Advocacy Prize, for demonstrating excellence and outstanding performance in Advanced Advocacy. Lauren is eager to put her strong advocacy skills into practice.
Community
During her time at Thompson Rivers University, Lauren was an active member of her school and local community. She volunteered as an upper-year mentor to incoming 1L students and served as the VP of Communications for TRU’s Black Law Students Association. Additionally, she volunteered as a foster for Better Beginnings Kitten Rescue, providing cats and kittens with a safe and loving environment until they found forever homes.
Personal
Originally from Ontario, Lauren spends most of her spare time exploring the vibrant cultural scenes of Calgary. She is enthusiastic about outdoor activities and looks forward to spending time hiking in the nearby Rockies. Having grown up playing softball, hockey and golf, she is excited to return to these sports in her new surroundings. Lauren is dedicated to her community and looks forward to making meaningful contributions through her legal career and volunteer efforts.
