We’re pleased to welcome Dana Stan, Summer Law Student, to the JSS Barristers team.
Dana is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor at the University of Calgary, where she is completing the Aboriginal and Indigenous Law Concentration. Prior to law school, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Law & Society, also from the University of Calgary.
Dana’s interest in Aboriginal law grew through her work as a Research Assistant, where she contributed to academic projects and assisted in editing an anthology of legal scholarship.
Outside of her studies, Dana is a fiction writer whose work has been published in several anthologies. She also enjoys crafts, nature walks, and foraging.
Dana is deeply involved in both her law school and local communities. She serves as an executive member and incoming Co-President of OUTLaw, helping foster a supportive environment for students and organizing discussions on queer legal issues. She has volunteered with Calgary Legal Guidance and as a Student Caseworker with Student Legal Assistance, supporting clients across a range of legal matters.
In addition, Dana has spent several years volunteering as a youth mentor through organizations including Hull Services and the Elizabeth Fry Society, supporting young people in navigating challenges and accessing community resources.
