Dana Stan is a 2L Summer Student at JSS Barristers with a strong interest in litigation and advocacy.
Education
Dana is a JD Candidate at the University of Calgary, graduating in 2027. She is pursuing the Aboriginal and Indigenous Law Concentration as part of her degree. Before law school, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Law & Society, also at the University of Calgary.
Her interest in Aboriginal law grew out of her work as a Research Assistant, where she contributed to academic projects and helped edit an anthology of legal scholarship.
Personal
Dana is a fiction writer, with work published in several anthologies. She also enjoys crafts, nature walks, and foraging.
Community
Dana is deeply involved in her law school and local communities. As an executive member and incoming Co-President of OUTLaw, she has helped create a supportive environment, organize events and discussions on queer legal issues, and advocate for students within the law school.
Dana is a Student Caseworker with Student Legal Assistance (SLA), where she meets with clients, conducts legal research, and advocates on their behalf. She also volunteers at Calgary Legal Guidance, supporting clients across all areas of law.
For several years, Dana has volunteered as a youth mentor. With Hull Services, she mentored an LGBTQ+ youth. With the Elizabeth Fry Society, she mentored a young person involved in the justice system, helping them navigate the justice system and access community supports.
