Education

Hamneet Minhas is a JD/HBA Candidate at Western University and the Ivey School of Business, expected to graduate in 2026. Her legal studies began after completing two years in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program at Western, where she was named to the Dean’s Honour List. In 2022, she transitioned into the Ivey School of Business program, earning Honours Distinction in business and continuing to excel academically and professionally.

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Hamneet’s interest in law grew from a foundation in health sciences and a passion for advocacy. Her litigation interests were sparked through her participation in the Legate Medical Malpractice Moot, where she and her teammate placed as finalists. She has also participated in the BLG Client Consultation Competition and serves as a mentor through the Ivey Law Club, supporting students navigating the JD/HBA experience.

Community

Hamneet is deeply involved in her student community and is passionate about creating meaningful spaces for learning, collaboration, and advocacy. She serves as Co-Chair of the Western Health Law Association, where she helps organize educational events and foster dialogue on legal and ethical issues in healthcare. As Co-VP Finance for the South Asian Law Student Association, she supports cultural and professional programming by managing the organization’s budget and planning initiatives. In her role as a Student Trustee with the Purple Care Trust, Hamneet contributes to decisions that impact student health benefits, working closely with advisors to ensure responsible financial oversight and effective policy development.

Hamneet is also dedicated to improving health systems and legal policy through research. As a Quality Improvement Consultant with the Ivey-Schulich Healthcare Incubator Program, she helped assess barriers in patient care and proposed practical solutions to enhance diagnosis and treatment. As a Research Assistant with the Health, Ethics, Policy and Law Lab, she led a team conducting a scoping review on how the "best interests of the child" standard is applied in legal and policy contexts, and collaborated with Obesity Canada to examine and update national frameworks that impact access to treatment for Canadians living with obesity.
